Director of Tennis
Frank Vermeer joined the Deerwood Team as the Director of Tennis in the fall of 2012. Originally from The Netherlands, Frank came to the United States to play collegiate tennis at the University of North Florida, where he was ranked the No. 1 Collegiate Player in the U.S.A.
After his college career, Frank went back to his home country and started his coaching career. He operated his own Tennis Academy before becoming a Head Tennis Professional and a Director of Tennis at different facilities. In 2007, Frank and his wife Trudy decided to move back to Florida where he is currently the President of the USPTA North-Florida Division.
His biggest hobby is still competing on the tennis courts in tournaments, as he is one of the top-ranked USPTA professionals in the country. He and his wife Trudy won the Golden Ball in the National Husband and Wife Championships in 2009.
In his spare time, Frank enjoys spending time at the beach, playing beach tennis and having fun. His favorite quote is, “Pressure is a privilege,” by Billie Jean King.
Frank Schaffner is a very experienced Tennis Professional who, before coming to Deerwood CC, was Assistant Coach UAB Men’s Tennis Team 1994-1995 and the Head Tennis Pro at San Jose CC. He was the #2 ranked German Junior U18 and while playing college tennis for Alabama, he was ranked Top 10 in singles and doubles NCAA. He peaked at 850 while playing on the ATP tour. He is a specialist in technique adjustments and correct movement and, being an excellent soccer player,is a very experienced Cardio Tennis Pro as well.
Pro Shop Manager
Trudy Vermeer began working as the Pro Shop Manager at Deerwood in the fall of 2012. Originally from The Netherlands, Trudy is a former professional tennis player and Dutch collegiate champion. She has set up and successfully managed several businesses and brings a wealth of tennis knowledge and experience to Deerwood.
Her hobbies include competing on the tennis courts, either playing mixed doubles with her husband Frank, or playing singles in national tournaments. In 2010, Trudy was the runner-up in the USTA 40’s National Championships. Off the court she likes to travel, go to the beach, and spend time with husband and their son, Koen.
